CNC Specialist/Tool Maker

Position Summary:

This is a 1st shift position.

The CNC Programmer/Set-up/Operator will work to produce high precision parts with close tolerances. In this position, the successful candidate will be very creative, in that many of the parts being made are “one-off” and/or very low volume. Expert ability in the programming and set-up of CNC machines is required. There will be collaboration with Engineering and the Automation Technician groups. The ability to work unsupervised and independently is required. Direction will be given by Manufacturing Engineering.

Essential Functions:

  1. Program/Set-up/Operate one or more CNC machines (lathe/mill/VMC).
  2. Operate manual machines (lathe/mill) as needed.
  3. Interpret Drawings and use all gauges and hand tools as required.
  4. Perform all set-up operations, makes all adjustments and complete tooling repairs as necessary.
  5. Ensures work area is maintained in a neat and orderly fashion.
  6. Wear personal protective equipment as required and follows all safety rules and regulations.
  7. Performs all other duties as assigned or required.

 Education / Licensure / Experience:

  • Trade school certification a plus.
  • Minimum 3 years of prior experience in programming and set-up of CNC machines required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Ability to work with close tolerances.
  • Must be able to set up tooling to produce parts to the Drawing.
  • Proficient knowledge of machining applications and tooling criteria.
  • Must be able to perform some advanced math/geometry calculations, utilize hand tools and have advanced mechanical abilities.
  • Proficiency reading blueprints, drawings, and/or schematics.
  • Ability to interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Must be on their feet all day and perform lifting operations up to 50 lbs.
