CNC Set-up/Operator

Position Summary:

The CNC Set-up/ Operator will be cross-trained in a variety of computer numerical control (CNC) machines to support the department operations and fulfillment of company production goals.  The CNC Machine Operator will produce machined parts from a variety of metals to required specifications by programming, setting-up, and operating applicable CNC machines.

2ND SHIFT: Monday – Thursday; 4PM – 2AM (10% shift differential)

Essential Functions:

  1. Produces parts to required specifications by setting and operating one or more CNC mills, swiss and/or lathes.
  2. Prepares for production by studying job packet, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, and machining parameters.
  3. Sets machine, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating job requirements including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; and proving part programs.
  4. Sets-up mills, swiss and lathes by installing and adjusting collet pads, tool holders, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; bar loader channels, bar loader settings and spindle liner.
  5. Verifies settings by measuring positions and inspecting first-run part.  Performs minor tooling adjustments as necessary to maintain part quality.
  6. Replaces tooling and makes minor adjustments under necessary supervision.
  7. Continuously cleans out chips during assigned shift.
  8. Makes quality work using 3-pan system.
  9. Makes out tickets that contain part numbers, machine number, operator number and date.
  10. Maintains operational status of machine by monitoring condition of assigned machine and reporting any needed repairs to the Maintenance Mechanic.
  11. Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly fashion, abiding by company rules and safety regulations.
  12. Performs all other duties as assigned.

 Education / Licensure / Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED, trade school certification a plus.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of prior CNC Set-up experience.
  • Prior CNC programming experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • General computer skills with the ability to use and learn SAP.
  • Ability to interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Basic mathematical knowledge to perform addition and subtraction.
  • Ability to utilize hand tools and have strong mechanical abilities.
  • Proficiency in blueprint reading.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to use micrometers and calipers.
  • Must demonstrate safe working habits, the ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment in a culturally diverse workplace.
