Maintenance Mechanic

Position Summary:

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative maintenance routines on machinery, troubleshoot and make repairs to Screw Machine equipment, support production, and service oil recycling and aqueous cleaner recycling equipment. The Maintenance Mechanic will also work to support the company goal of reducing waste.

Essential Functions:

  1. Performs mechanical maintenance of all plant machinery and equipment.
  2. Provides emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled and preventative maintenance repairs of production equipment.
  3. Uses troubleshooting to effectively and efficiently repair production machinery using skills including mechanical, electrical (up to 480 volt), pneumatic, and hydraulics.
  4. Engages in successful troubleshooting, promptly and accurately gathering relevant information (equipment manuals, blueprints, work orders, and communication with coworkers).
  5. Designs, fabricates, and welds parts to support manufacturing, to include but not limited to the welding of repairs to equipment.
  6. Complies with OSHA and ARC task regulations.
  7. Operates recyclers and boilers for Hazardous Waste Reduction.
  8. Navigates web-based work order system and prioritizes work load according to tight schedule.
  9. Fills out maintenance work orders in database and initiates requests for replacement spare parts as needed.
  10. Must be able to flex hours for training purposes and major projects within the plant.
  11. Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly fashion, abiding by company rules and safety regulations.
  12. Assists with daily support to the Screw Machine department as needed.
  13. Performs all other duties as assigned.

 Education / Licensure / Experience:

  • High School diploma with skilled trades courses desired combined with 5 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • 3-5 years of experience in fabrication and welding.
  • Prior relevant machine maintenance experience to include CNC, Hydromat, Acme, and Davenports.
  • Prior CNC programming experience preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite and experience with web-based work order systems.
  • Must possess skills/knowledge of Industrial Electrician to read and comprehend electrical blueprints and schematics to install, troubleshoot, conduct preventative maintenance and perform repairs to facilities and production equipment to 480 Volts, 3-Phase.
  • Proficient blueprint reading skills.
  • Must demonstrate safe working habits, the ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge and ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Proficient and well-rounded technical capacity.
  • Experience with work-order systems, preferably web-based systems.
  • Ability to become forklift certified.
  • Knowledge in PLC’s and CNC controls.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment in a culturally diverse workplace.

Working Conditions:
Work is normally performed in a loud manufacturing environment subject to fluctuations in temperature and on company grounds in a wide range climate changes.  Regular exposure to dust, dirt, grease, oil, low and high voltage, heavy machinery and work in confined spaces will expected in the position of Maintenance Mechanic.

Physical Demands:
Physical requirements needed to perform the job are eye-hand coordination and bi-manual dexterity sufficient to work with small parts, a normal range of hearing and eyesight to focus on task, the ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time, the ability to perform work while bending, crouching, and moving in confined spaces, and the ability to lift, push and pull up to 75 pounds.
